color: hunter green

when i think of color hunter green would probably be the towards the end of my list of favorites. i'm not really the biggest fan of the hue. but in interiors i think hunter green can be the perfect dark rich color on the wall to make everything sort of "pop".

hunter green walls may not be a typical choice but it can be a fabulous one.
there are many different shades you can do of the dark green... here are some examples.

i am completely obsessed with this image! i think it is such a beautiful shot, the colors. styling etc! of course it is dutch!

the dark color makes the table and the photos pop perfectly. the coloring in the images stand out much more than if they were on a light colored wall.

there doesn't seem to be anything hanging on the large wall behind the sofa-the dark rich wall color takes care of that. sometimes when you have colored painted walls like this one you don't need anything else to make it beautiful.

here is a good mix of two different shades of green. i love how they used the same wall paint to cover their trim and mouldings. always a nice touch!

the green in this image makes the room feel more traditional/masculine.

goes great with bling!

having the contrast with the white trim and moulding is really beautiful!

not really sure what this room is for... but i think the art with the painted walls look very interesting!

embrace color! so many times i think people get scared to paint their walls with the not so traditional colors (where i come from people use reds, browns and yellows a lot) branch out! try something new, remember if you absolutely hate you can always repaint it.

i spy new york: robert hann

last week while i was in soho shopping for a client i stopped to talk to mr. rob hann.
i had to stop because his photography was amazing! he had images from my part of the country (ut, wyo, cali, nv, the west coast yo)!!  my favorite of his projects is his "deserted states of america" he captured some of the images just as they were on his roadtrip across the country.
"the deserts of the american west hold a particular fascination for me. born and raised in england's green and pleasant land, i've lived in busy, crowded cities since my late teens. the vast open spaces of the west are a place of silence, wonder and mystery. i like to get lost there whenever I can" rob hann.

here is rob when i met him last week.

highway 70,  new mexico

interstate 10, california

nixon, nevada

highway 62, california (can u believe this was as is?)

cheyenne, wyoming

highway 180, arizona

tommy augusta, montana

dottie wellton, arizona

i am loving his work! the colors are amazing and i think he captures the wild deserted west perfectly!! though most of his work is sold in galleries if you find him selling his work on a booth in the streets of the city you can walk away with a few of his images for a great price between $18-25. after looking at his website a few times i think i know which ones i want for myself! it brought a smile to my face seeing images of my beloved utah on the streets of utah!

it was great meeting you rob, i honestly love your work. you have a fabulous eye, very artistic! hope to run into soon.

all images came from his website www.robhann.com take a look!

designing on a budget: chelsea apartment

my husband's cousin and his wife moved from london to new york city - they arrived with nothing but clothes in suitcases. they started from scratch making the design process go by fast and easy because they were desperate to make it a home!

they were easy to work with, they knew what they liked! they did the painting themselves, picked up and assembled their furniture, etc! we had some late night projects working on a few things (when you're stretching the dough you have to get extra creative).

take a look at their apartment in chelsea...

we made a grocery list chalk board and framed it and painted the kitchen walls with benjamin moore kelly green. the entry coat rack was made from a stick found on the street. talk about designing on a budget!

i kept the living/dining area a neutral gray. my cousin found the perfect dining table on craigslist. the table mixed with modern chairs gives the area an eclectic look.

i love the look of the black cord from the hanging light. when you're in a rental you can't install new lights very easily. that's why hanging pendants work perfectly! they were gifted a painting of london for her birthday with out knowing the colors of her place - i think the painting fits amazingly in the space.

space planning: they needed a work space, dining area and living space... we got it all in one room.

a wood pallet (painted from the left over kelly green) was picked up on the street and used to hang up their pictures. we found affordable fabric in the garment district and made our own pillows.

love the color (teal) in the bedroom! it's cheerful! the dresser and chair came from craigslist, the dresser got repainted with left over dining room gray paint. the chair was spray painted yellow to give the room a pop. the stick.... came from the street!

i love how the dresser knobs (from anthropologie) match the yellow chair. small but lovely detail.

we used 18 frames (painted same color as the wall) to make a visual interest behind the bed. some of these frames came from...the street!

i wanted to bring in bedside lights but instead of lamps we used hanging bulbs. the cords were the white cheap kind from ikea but i wanted them yellow so we used yellow duct tape to cover the cords.

thanks to my cousins for letting me design their space!
